F-Gas Certification – City & Guilds 2079 for Cat I & II
To obtain City & Guilds 2079 certification you will need to pass a theory test – a 50 question online exam, multiple choice (1 hr and 20 mins) and a practical assessment (up to 4 hrs) at one of our 9 UK branches; Aberdeen, Bristol, Derby, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford.


Those who achieve the City & Guilds 2079 for Cat I qualification will be able to service, maintain, install, commission and leak check all stationary Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump equipment.


How does it work?
You will prepare for the theory element of the qualification by studying the online course on F-Gas Regulations, accessible via “My Learning Account”, at your convenience. Once you are ready, you set a date to come to any Star Refrigeration UK branch to carry out the practical training and/or the assessment.


If you choose to do F-Gas practical training before the assessment, the assessor will take you through every single task you will be asked to do during the assessment and you will have a hands-on familiarisation session with the assessment rig.

Theoretical Assessment Topics:
  • Basic thermodynamics.
  • Basic refrigeration cycle.
  • Knowledge of key components and risk of leakage.
  • Identify the condition and physical state of refrigerant.
  • Determine system operating performance and efficiency.
  • Monitoring system performance for signs of leakage.
  • Understanding the environmental impact of F-Gases.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of equipment record keeping.


Practical Assessment Tasks:

  • Brazing piece.
  • Pressure testing.
  • Refrigerant charging and recovery inspect for leaks.
  • Identify the condition and physical state of refrigerant.
  • Rectification of leaks and reinspection.
  • Connecting and disconnecting gauges.

The F-Gas Certification – City & Guilds 2079 for Cat I or II GOLD package offers you a ½ day assessment at any Star Refrigeration centre where you will carry out the City & Guilds theory test and practical test. In preparation for the assessment you will be able to access the online theory course on F-Gas Regulations.
This package is suitable for experienced engineers who need to refresh their theory knowledge.

The F-Gas Certification – City & Guilds 2079 for Cat I or II PREMIUM package offers you a ½ day assessment at any Star Refrigeration centre where you will carry out the City & Guilds theory test and practical test. In preparation for the assessment you will be able to access the online theory course on F-Gas Regulations and you will carry out a training session to familiarise yourself with the assessment rig prior to the actual assessment.
This package is suitable for experienced engineers who need to refresh their theory knowledge.

During your F-Gas Certification assessment you will be asked to follow a safe system of work and as such would be expected to follow the procedures laid out in the attached method statements and PPE defined in the risk assessments. Print them out and bring them with you on the day of your City & Guilds 2079 assessment.
